When Blogging Goes Wrong

In my mind a blog can never go wrong. But in the eyes of a marketer there are a few litmus tests that determine if a blog is not doing well. First of all if the traffic never really bursts than from a marketing stand point a blog is doing pretty bad. If I do not personally immediately see some kind of result quickly I usually ditch the blog and only blog it when I am bored. Many marketers put a moratorium that after 6 months if there is not a significant traffic improvement then the blog is ditched. Good blogs can usually break the Alexa top million fairly quickly then even when posting stops hold quite a bit of viral traffic. For me if a blog does not hit near the top one hundred thousand with some time spent on it I usually retire the blog because the idea may not be going. When this happens I put more focus on marketing on the next site and learn from my mistakes. The number one reason that a blog does not get enough traffic is that the content is literally not useful. The more useful the site the more traffic a blog will get and the less likely the site will turn into a ghost town. Once a blog gets good traffic in some ways nothing else really matters. Well some things do matter. Sometimes blogs get hacked or have problems that do not change even when the template is changed. Some bloggers just populate the site with ads, link to their next project and call it a day while others will scrap the whole site and start anew on the domain. Other problems some bloggers have is merely animosity among their readers. Some controversial sites sometimes run themselves off of a cliff. People can be pretty crazy online and many times this negativity can be targeted at a good intentioned blogger. One of the biggest blog complaints as of lately is the inability of advertising to work well on make money online sites. I could not tell you if this is a real trend or not but blogs in general can loose their market. The money could dry up regardless of what the blogger does. Targeting hot industries can greatly increase the success of a blog and its ability to monetize well. My most profitable sites are definitely made for advertising sites. It feels spammy to make them but there is nothing spammy with the money in my affiliate accounts. I would highly encourage marketers to go this route. There is always an obvious market that is going nuts and to jump on is a smart move. Many times it is not what the blog is about but how specific it goes. Some blogs do not differentiate themselves in their niche and just appear to most people to be a carbon copy of all other blogs in their niche. The make money online niche especially is awful. The top blogs all seem to run the same affiliate deals on the same day pretty consistently and bring the same meme to every one. The money niche might be packed but just bring something fresh every day could quickly take your site into the top 100 blogs. Because that is the nature of blogging. It is essential to be original and do what is best for your blog and not what you think other people think a blog should be.

What Are Blogs and How Do They Work

A blog or a web log is an online journal that people create and is posted to a website. Blogs have feeds also like RSS which stands for really simple syndication that make it easier for people to read the blog and helps with SEO as well. Blogs are usually made with the help of a blog plat form where people have a field where they can controll everything on their site including posts, pages, pictures, widgets, themes, backgrounds and literally anything else. Bloggers also partake in the blogosphere which includes guest posting on other blogs, leaving detailed comments on other blogs, participating in various online social communities, vlogging, pod casting, bookmarking, participating in forums and doing anything else blog related. A considerable ammount of time and attention is divested in making money with blogs. The realization that blogs could be valuable is not a new thing but as of lately is really catching on with most people now realizing the importance of blogging. Blogging structrally works like a form of media much like tv or a book. Blogs are quickly becomming some of the most dynamic properties on the web and are even entering into the top 100 websites for traffic. Many online social communities have a blog function as well. For example myspace has blogs and many people have effectively leveraged their brand on. So do many other social communities. The dynamic community that is created because of blogs is what keeps bloggers going.

How To Blog For Money

Blogging is fast becoming an interesting revenue stream for some people and for others blogging is their whole livelihood. Blogs span all topics and come in all sizes. There seems to be a blog for everything these days. Advertisers realize this and pay people for the traffic and impressions. For bloggers just starting out they use affiliate companies, pay per click advertisements, cost per action advertisements, in text advertisements, pay per post, and countless other ways to make a buck. As bloggers mature and create good stuff their brand becomes a revenue generating machine. Some bloggers if they are lucky rise to the top of their niche and even the top of all blogs. The most successful money blogs tend to be orientated towards a subject, an affiliate program, and are many times a product review site or in some way call to action traffic to click ads and make them money. Even the most successful pay per click contextual advertising blogs tend to keep a train of thought to create the necessary targeting that will force advertiser competition and ultimately more money per click. It is not easy to make a lot of money online rather it takes hard work and a steep learning curve to achieve it. Are you going to be the next internet millionaire, billionaire or trillionaire?

Why are Blogs Important

Blogs are a piece of the puzzle for many people. Whether they read or write blogs many people like what is happening in the world of blogs. Companies have mobilized and begin much advertising in the blogosphere. When there is money behind something it intensifies. Blogging at the moment is unstoppable. Blogging is the new book or the new movie and from blogging has emerged the infamous dot com life. People are increasingly spending more time on the Internet and the user generated content gives them a stake in the pie whether they make fifty cents a day or a hundred thousand dollars a month and everyone in between it does not matter. Bloggers are many times united by common threads and ideas and their voices would not have been heard in the 'real world.' Because of this blogging is very empowering. Blogging empowers unemployed people to turn into marketers, or silent people to express an opinion, or people to post images and videos of their day to day life there is a time and place for all of this in the blogosphere. Because blogs are one of the best ways of driving traffic to a website, blogs have become a part of many businesses who have had trouble getting any eyes on their corporate pages. Blogging increases sales, money made and ultimately happiness.

What is the Best Way to Blog

Blogging takes on many forms so finding the best way to blog is exceptionally hard. Ad to this that many top bloggers are rule breakers it makes it very hard to write this. The first step to blogging is choosing a blogging medium that is right for you whether it be myspace, wordpress, blogger or drupal one must weigh the pros and cons of the various mediums. Once a blog is chosen the layout must be tweaked and original and there must be some good content for people to enjoy. The content is especially tricky. As a general rule the more useful the content is the more people will want to stay at the blog. If there is little reader engagement then the content may not have a personal level to it. Many of the best bloggers bring their self into the articles and often state opinions many of which people do not like. This comes with the territory. In blogging if people say they like a particular micro chip a post can quickly become controversial. Many of the best blogs a lot have significant bookmarking that many times comes in wordpress themes and plugins and resembles the whole add this phenomena. These social bookmarking links break down barriers to blogs going viral which is kinda the point. Most bloggers who want to succeed crave traffic, attention and links. Driving links is no easy task but may be accelerated by blogging on the hot topics.

How Do Blogs Get Discovered

Blog discovery happens a variety of ways but the most important way is social media. The second a person makes a blog or a blog post many sites, aggregators and people start moving the content around the Internet and around the world. This fundamental person to person exchange of ideas is how things get moved. Whether it be with GMail or with facebook our social media is the most important way for a blog to get discovered. Search engines play another crucial role in blog discovery. Especially topical blogs that regularly write posts on topics that search engines like google will need will get a lot of search traffic. Search traffic differs from social traffic in that it is much less likely to spread the word. The third way blogs get discovered is through promotional methods like advertising. Many for profit blogs have a lot of money to burn on advertising and successfully do so. Blogs can get discovered may other ways as well. Please leave a comment if you know any other means of blog discovery.

What Does Google Page Rank Mean

Google page rank is extremely important to bloggers and webmaster. The page rank is a number between 1 and 10 that is an estimate to how authoritative a website is. 1 is the lowest and 10 is the highest. Authority online is determined by many factors the most important being link structure, web site traffic, quality of site, bookmarks, mentions, references, site speed, the dates when content was uploaded, how exact the content matches key words, how targeted the content is and etc. Google tends to rank sites high that are both authoritative and more importantly staples in the google search matrix. Websites with higher page rank will see a lot of traffic on their keywords and as a result trying to increase page rank will help a site be more successful. Google page rank is also a litmus test Internet wide and is an important indication of website health. There are many sites out there that rank and analyze how a site does but non that I know of use so many factors as google does in determining page rank. Because of the sophistication of page rank, and the dominance of google in the search sphere knowing your page rank(PR Checker) and analyzing your site for search engine optimization is extremely important.

Why Is Google Better Than Yahoo

Comparing google to yahoo is like comparing apples to oranges. Google has revolutionized the advertising game and has had many successful aquisitions and startups. Google is now one of the biggest innovation engines on the internet. Yahoo on the other hand is a more traditional search engine community site. Yahoo is a social hub for many people. Yahoo has many talented people working for itself and continues to do well. When comparing google to yahoo we have to consider scale as well. Google is a much bigger company that hires more people to do more stuff. Google's innovative algorithm is both great in its ability to create good search results based primarily on link structure but to maintain the algorythm is time intensive and difficult. Neither google or yahoo have their hands on some important realestate on line as well so one could argue both companies have blind spots. For example both yahoo and google have numerous social media properties but neither company owns some of the alpha sites. On the other hand google is an innovation center and has created new and unique ideas like an online live encyclopedia, sophisticated map system, and is the new age center of blog search. Yahoo on the other hand has the best photo site on earth, zillions of yahoo groups that people are very active in and ties together online chatting and the social thing into a dynamic and amazing web property. To conclude no site is better and most people like both google and yahoo. What is your opinion?

Is Google Making Us Stupid Analysis

Recently I was watching some PBS show that claimed checking the email decreased brain waves and killed the brain some how. This claim seemed to make a lot of sense in some ways but in other ways is highly unsubstantiated. In the same way some might say google is making us stupid because it makes our lives easier. In that case I will say all right. The piece missing in that argument is how hard online marketers, business entrepreneurs and the make money online crowd have to think to be successful. I would think that this inspired thinking would make their brain grow and they would become smarter. So the short answer is that google is what we make of it. There was a time that we sat down and watched TV for 24 hours a day. Now we are making blogs, coding, designing new apps and doing everything else online thanks to google. So in some ways google has turned us all into inventors. I remember as a kid at the Thomas Edison home or maybe somewhere else thinking all great ideas were discovered. Well truth be told these days I feel like that discovery is at my finger tips in this infinite online world of google and many other great sites. Sure the dubbing down of the world occurs online but if we push our selves to leave the beaten path there is room for brain stimulation. For example if I hear of something and do not know what it is about I search google and wikipedia for the answer. When I find the answer my brain grows and that is what google is all about. Discovery. Please leave a comment.

Is Google Chrome Faster Than Firefox

Today we are in the browser wars. Many companies now operate online instead of coming packaged in the ole PC. Two such companies that have been making headway for years are google chrome and FireFox. Both browsers have stolen the spot light and have brought us into a new era of web browsers. Personally I am a bit nostalgic when google discontinued its AdSense referral program where FireFox was one of people's favorite program to sell. Every site on the Internet it seemed was pedalling FireFox. Then sort of recently Google chrome came out and became the fastest browser on the web, but this did not come without costs. (Many people had usability issues that are still being resolved and tweaked.) There are actually situations when FireFox is actually must faster and easier to use than google chrome. This all depends on the type of computer the browser is used on, what is being done on the web, the history of using the browser and how well its installed, browser health, etc. Most serious computer people have every browser on their computer from safari, Internet explorer, and FireFox to the infamous google chrome and beyond. Personally I use whatever browser that I need to get the job done and switch if for example some field on the Internet will not work in a particular browser. In the end I am publishing this article on Internet explorer so I will tip my hat to Microsoft. Please leave a comment.

Is Wordpress Easy To Use

Wordpress is one of the easiest blogging mediums to use. That is precisely why wordpress is so popular. One major thing to consider is that if you are an intermittent blogger and you for example miss an update something may happen. Some hosting companies for example have a cpanel where wordpress must be one click updated. When you update changes to the template are lost for example. A consequence of this may be that an adsense ad that I place in the header will be gone and I have to redo it. To amend this situation there are plugins that get around this and auto update wordpress but they must be installed. In this sense wordpress is more hands on than many other beginner and more intuitive blogging mediums. But with choices comes freedom. If you want you site to be the best it can be wordpress is one of the best ways to do it albeit the challenge. I have encountered numerous people in forums who actually abandoned wordpress because it was simply more work to keep up then they had time for. In this case blogging on blogger may be a better option. A basic work ethic is required for wordpress and if you do not want to do that there are many other great options. Please leave a comment.

Is Blogger Better Than Wordpress

The debate of blogger vs wordpress as to which blogging service is best is complicated. Blogger is free, easy to use and has its own social community build into it. On the other hand wordpress is a great open source program that has established itself as the premier blogging tool. In reality it is a good idea to blog on both. As a blogger leveraging social media is very important so even contributing to the blogspot community once a month can be worth your while. On the other hand wordpress is far more extensible and has been used to build everything from simple blogs to gigantic social communities, search engines and complex aggregators. The debate will never end and there is good reason for this. Wordpress because of the price of web hosting is required takes more capital to create. As a result many bloggers see the world of wordpress being the veteran bloggers versus blogger being where people start. This is not entirely true as many top blogs are printed on blogger so this stereotype does not hold up. Wordpress unlike blogger can easily be morphed with themes and plug ins and in one click people can have a professional looking website that like even a year ago would have been amazing. Blogger on the other hand can be changed but this takes knowledge in html which many people do not know really well. One of the great advantages of blogger though is its ability to withstand traffic surges. This is because blogger is owned by google which uses better technology than the average budget hosting company that people take out for the use of wordpress. The debate rages on. I personally like blogger and wordpress equally. What side are you on?

Is Twitter Any Good

Twitter may be one of the most important micro-blogging sites to anyone in the fields of blogging, Internet marketing and business. On twitter people create a tweet which is a short instant message. In this message they can link drop or use the @ symbol to make a tweet like @someones name. Using the @ symbol opens up channels of communications between people and creates attention and a flow of traffic. Following people also creates traffic. The more people that one follows and is followed by the more channels are opened. Then people are always streaming through each other's follower list. Every day I wake up I get so many new followers that their seems to be no end in my email account. Twitter accounts have been effectively used as direct links to affiliate landing pages, ebooks and other for sale Internet sites. This ability of people to market a simple little space is really unprecedented in social media. That is how people knew that we had a revolution on our hands. Many major bloggers have created sites specifically dedicated to twitter. One blog is called twitip. Twitip was started by Darren Rowse, but is regularly guest authored. Within the comments people can put their twitter address to drive people off of the blog onto their twitter profile and hopefully to follow them. Some twitter related sites and apps to checkout include:

1. Twitterholic is the list of the top users.

2. Let's Follow gives reason to the follow.

3. Big Tweet brings twitter to the browser to free up people to search the web for gold nuggets.

4. Twellow is a directory of people who tweet by category.

5. Micro Blog Buzz is a site that keeps up with the world of micro blogs. This is why after a tweet people see traffic come from other sites besides twitter. There are zillions of sites like this always tracking social media feeds.

6. Twitscoop shows what is being covered on twitter. Twitscoop is to twitter as technorati is to blogging.

7. Friend or Follow lets people sort our who is following them, friends or not very easily.

8. Twitoria helps people eliminate following and followers that are inactive on twitter.

The list goes on for sites with tools, apps and services related to twitter. The whole point is that their is an adsense like gold rush to twitter that is the hot new keyword in social media. If you have not a twitter account get one. Please leave a comment.
